RUTH GRANT-BAILEY
ABOUT RUTH
RUTH GRANT-BAILEY has been an RN for over thirty years, with most of her career experience in leadership and management. She brought an intensive physical therapy model to the Cincinnati area and co-founded an intensive physical therapy center that treated children with neuromuscular disorders. Ruth also started two non-profits—Smiles for Kids and CP Inspires (no longer in place). These accomplishments, along with her strong advocacy for Mason and his medical care and treatments, led to her being recognized as one of Nabisco’s 100 Extraordinary Women in 2008.
In addition to A Muddy Life, Ruth has written two children’s books and several articles for various magazines. As an educator on cerebral palsy and intensive therapy models, she has done multiple presentations and speaking engagements at elementary schools, physician offices, PTA meetings, and chambers of commerce.
ABOUT Mason
MASON BAILEY is a self advocate who owns and operates his own business, Seasonal Impact, and was certified in heavy equipment operating in 2019. He is a speaker and educator on cerebral palsy and how to treat those with disabilities and has spoken at elementary schools, county workshops, and medical residency programs.
In 2023, Mason was awarded the Al Miller Award for Gratitude by The Holocaust and Humanity Center in Cincinnati. He has also been featured on local news channels and in My Life magazine.
A Muddy life
Grief. Frustration. Gratitude. Humor. These are just some of the emotions Ruth Grant-Bailey, her son, Mason, and their family have experienced throughout Mason's twenty-some years of living with cerebral palsy.
In her debut novel, Ruth shares her experience of raising a child with a disability, while Mason offers a glimpse into what it's like to live with one. Their candor about the struggle to give Mason an independent, "normal" life and their differing views on what that might look like are both eye-opening and entertaining.
